Walking in Nurses' Shoes: Information Needs from Novice to Expert
Explore the information needs of nurses at all levels of education and experience and the information needs of nurses in various roles and settings. Examine the role of information in nursing education, clinical settings and in the community. Summary of effective educational techniques and examples. Tips on tailoring educational experiences to specific audiences.

Introduction to Epidemiology for Librarians
Epidemiology is an area of study on which much of the health literature is based. In this course, librarians of all types will learn about how epidemiology is used to study human health and disease outbreaks, the varied roles and training of practitioners involved in the creation of health data, and how librarians may use this added knowledge to better search and select relevant literature.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the Protection of Human Subjects
This workshop will provide an historical perspective and definition of the IRB. It will answer the question "Do I need an IRB for my research?" It will cover the basics of creating an IRB, providing both general and more specific guidelines. Participants will create an IRB that will be presented to the group to review.

Please plan on joining your colleagues for a fun evening of food and music at the 2012 MHSLA Welcome Reception. The evening will feature the Detroit Wheels dinner buffet and a cash bar. Music will be provided by the Irish band, Odd Enough.

8:00-11:00 p.m. - Networking event at the Baronette Renaisance Hotel's Presidential Suite
The 2012 Special Event will be taking place at Twelve Oaks Mall, located a quick walk or drive from the Baronette Renaissance Hotel. Begin the evening by exploring the mall with a Scavenger Hunt.
Twelve Oaks Mall has over 200 distinctive shops and restaurants. Next, are cocktails and a delicious dinner at the Tin Fish restaurant, located at the mall. Several menu options will be available including vegetarian.
After dinner, conference attendees are invited back to the Baronette Resnaissance Hotel for a networking event in the Presidential Suite from 8:00-11:00 p.m. Non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will be available.

Join us in this slightly different combination of presenting our members' great ideas and research projects that will combine our popular "Lightning Rounds" format with our poster presenters in a fast paced, informative session.
This session will alternate between lightning round and poster presentations with seven minutes for each presenter. The moderator is Christopher Hunt, Garden City Hospital.
